KUGB SCOTTISH SQUAD

Following the formation of the Karate Union of Scotland in 1969 and the subsequent divisions within that group, various individuals re-affiliated directly to the KUGB during the early 1970's. Current Scottish Regional Officer, Mr. Paul Allan was one of those individuals.

When the KUGB re-structured in 1977, a new Scottish Region was formed which gained a Scottish Affiliation to the EAKF in 1978 (Belgrade, Yugoslavia). Since that time the Region has developed steadily and today hosts a wide variety of training courses, promotional events and squad activities. At club and National level the region is involved in many charitable and fund raising courses and demonstrations, while continually striving to represent the KUGB interests in the international scene.

A reflection of the development of interest in the KUGB in Scotland has been the regions reversal of National Trends to increase membership by approximately 18% during each of the past two years. Additionally, over this period the KUGB has successfully established a working agreement with other various Scottish Karate Groups.

At the Scottish Region Championships the club winners of the 'Higgins Shield' were as follows;

1987 - Huntly K.C
1988 - Dundee University
1989 - Dundee University.
1990 - Largs K.C.

The Scottish Region was represented at the Nakayama Cup in 1989 and 1990, ESKA in Sunderland, 1987, Paris, 1988, Athens in 1989 and Italy in 1990 with their resident Coach, Paul Allan and Guest coaches, Billy Higgins and Bob Rhodes.
